30 Day Self Improvement Challenge

Hello, June! It is officially Summer, and I’m thrilled about the warm weather. As I was rummaging through Pinterest earlier this week, I saw some old posts about monthly challenges and thought it would be fun to create and share one of my own for this month.

This is a list of 30 things I am personally trying to do this month, and things that are easy and beneficial to all to try. You can do one thing a day, multiple things a day, whatever suits you.

I’m always trying to improve and this month I’m going to really make an effort to get EVERYTHING on this list done! I hope you’ll join me 🙂

1. Make a list of your favorite things about yourself. You’re awesome, write down why.

2. Purge your wardrobe. This always makes me feel better. I love getting rid of old things. Read this post about how to decide what to get rid of. I sell my things with ThredUp and have made a surprising amount back. I also donate unsellable things to Goodwill.

3. Clean our your sock and underwear drawer. We all have socks and panties we NEVER wear. Throw ’em out.

4. Organize your kitchen drawers. It’s easy for the drawers in the kitchen to get chaotic. Take some time to organize them and make things easier to get to.

5. Re-evaluate/Create your budget. If you don’t have a budget, CREATE ONE. List out your monthly expenses, income, and visualize your cash flow. Mint.com is a great budgeting tool and is free. If you already have a budget, go back through and tweak as needed.

6. Spend a whole day without your phone. Yes, this is hard. But necessary. It actually feels nice to be technology free every once in a while.

7. Donate old books and movies you don’t need/want. We all have books sitting around we don’t need. I’m terrible at this with my old textbooks. Do you still have VHS tapes you’ll NEVER watch again? Get rid of them! Sell them online. Donate them.

8. Look through your last month of spending and find trends. Bank statements are your best friend. This is an easy way to figure out where you’re wasting money and try to fix it moving forward. Visually seeing the break down of your spending can be eye opening.

9. Set up an automatic savings withdrawal from every paycheck. You’ll thank yourself for this one, I promise. Even if it’s $20 a paycheck, it will add up!

10. Get rid of old bras that don’t fit right that you never wear. I’m so bad at this. Bras are expensive! But if they don’t fit, aren’t comfortable and you don’t wear them, they’re just taking up space. Bite the bullet and get rid of them.

11. Make a list of things you’re grateful for. It’s so important to be humble and remember that you are blessed with all you have, even when things are going poorly. Even more when they’re going well. Reflect on your blessings and be thankful.

12. Plan ahead for your next week. Monday is much less intimidating if you’re prepared for it. Sit down and plan for your week ahead so you go into it feeling ready.

13. Go a full day without complaining. This is a hard one, but it really makes you think about what you say and remember to be thankful for all of the good things.

14. Clean out under your bathroom sink. When was the last time you looked under there?? Get rid of what you don’t need/use.

15. Do something outside. Go for a walk, go hiking, go to the park, go for a bike ride. Spend some time outside enjoying the weather. It’s so rejuvenating.

16. Take a fitness class. It’s so fun to workout in a group. I personally love yoga classes. It’s typically $10 to drop in for a class, or get a Groupon for a few visits. Meet some new friends while you’re at it.

17. Grocery shop and plan your meals for the week. I’ve started doing this recently and first off it saves a ton of money eating out. Secondly, you feel better when you eat better. Pinterest is full of meal planning ideas, and I use the BodyBoss meal plan and love it.

18. Take yourself on a date. Get your nails done, a haircut, a massage, or buy yourself a new top. Do something nice for yourself.

19. Clean out your purse and wallet. It’s really easy to just throw things in our purses and forget about them. Go through and clean out your bag AND wallet and get rid of old receipts, gum wrappers, and anything else hiding in there.

20. Empty your junk drawer(s). You know exactly what drawer I’m talking about. Ours is in the kitchen and is packed full of junk. Clean it out and organize it!

21. Run all of your errands. Nothing feels better than checking everything off your to do list.

22. Make your bed every day for a month. Speaking of feeling good, making your bed WILL make you feel better. When you come home and see your bed looking nice, it really improves your mood. I swear by this.

23. Try to go a full week without spending more than $5 a day. Work on that budget and try to limit your spending. You don’t need that $5 coffee when you could bring a cup from home and save that money and time.

24. Go through your to-do list, prioritize, and re-write. If you’re like me, your to-do list might grow faster than it shrinks. Or maybe you have multiple lists. Look through, number them in order of priority and re-write them weekly.

25. Clean out your makeup collection. We all have a ton of makeup sitting at home we do not need, won’t use, or is old. Throw it out, girl.

26. Set personal goals for the upcoming month. Set some goals for what you want to accomplish in the next 30 days. Some of the items on this list can be goals to set! Workout 3x this week? Don’t eat out the whole month? Eat 2 veggies a day? Think about things that will improve your overall health.

27. Re-organize your closet. Now that you’ve gotten rid of all the things you don’t need, reorganize things! Take out all your winter sweaters and store them somewhere else. Give yourself more space to really see all of your summer pieces. See this post about re-organizing your closet.

28. Resist buying something new for a whole month. I put this in here because I am doing this! I set a goal to not buy any new clothes for a whole month. I had my fill from the Memorial Day sales. No more for 30 days! Jake is thrilled and wishes I’d make this recurring haha.

29. Go a full month without fast food. Fast food isn’t good for you and the costs add up quickly. Since we started meal prepping and grocery shopping weekly, we haven’t eaten out or had any fast food. We want to maintain that. Try it for yourself and see how good you feel.

30. Get rid of old devices you no longer use/need. We all have old phones, computers, tablets, chargers, keyboards, etc we don’t use. They’re just sitting in our homes taking up space when they could be doing good elsewhere. It’s really easy to sell old electronics online and rid yourself of the clutter.


And there you have it! 30 days worth of things to help you help yourself in various ways. Minimizing, decluttering, becoming financially sound, and loving yourself are all super important in our lives.
