I’ve been fantasizing about my wedding for as long as I can remember. I thought I had the majority of it planned out, but when I actually got engaged and once I actually started planning, it was very different than I thought it would be!
But that’s not a bad thing. It’s because I never expected to be here in Kansas City. And I love it here, so it’s a welcome challenge. Back home, I know where everything was and what I liked. Here in my new home, I’ve had to figure more out. I’ve gone mostly off of referrals for things, which is way more helpful anyway.
A co-worker from my last job is getting married this October, too, and she is so organized she made a binder to keep everything all together in one place. I liked that idea, so she helped me make my own.
The best thing that’s helped is having a checklist. There are so many things to plan that aren’t things you’d necessarily think of, so having something to go by helps a LOT.
For the venue, I looked at quite a few places, but as soon as I saw ours, I knew “this is it!”. It had the perfect amount of character I wanted, we could have a beautiful outdoor ceremony, and the area is perfect for pictures. It’s also on our budget, which is the best part!
Speaking of budget, because we are getting married on a Sunday, it’s saved us a lot of money so far! Most places and services charge more for Friday and Saturday weddings because they’re more in demand. If you can do a different day, I recommend considering it.
Our ceremony is outdoor and in the evening, so it’ll be beautiful like this for pictures.
My colors are burgundy, peach and sage. I plan on having succulents
in the bouquets and boutonnières.

I love dessert, so I want to have multiple kinds. I don’t want a traditional cake because it’s hard to please everyone. I like the idea of cupcakes because you can do multiple flavors and then have a small cake to cut together. I also love donuts, so having them in addition is of course a win.
Since I’m doing all fake flowers (saves a LOT of money and they last forever!), My centerpieces will be very simple like this. I do plan on getting real rose petals for the isle and tables, and some eucalyptus garland

The two biggest things to me in terms of Vendors other than where we would get married were the photographer and the DJ. You won’t get those memories back, so you want someone who will capture exactly what you want. And a poor DJ will effect the flow of the whole evening.
Our photographer came highly recommended by my bosses wife as they just got married last August. Once I saw his portfolio, I immediately booked him. I can’t wait to see how our pictures turn out! He is also taking our engagement photos in 3 weeks so that’ll be a sneak peek.

Our DJ came from one of my bridesmaids who used this company for her wedding and raved about them. We met with him in person and also immediately agreed he was exactly what we wanted. He assured me he would be there to maintain everything so I would have nothing to stress about and could actually enjoy my day.
One of the things we haven’t decided on is whether we want to do a Photo Booth or not. Has anyone done one? Was it worth it? Vote in the top right corner of the page!
